Peace CorpsPresident John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961. Since that time, three simple goals have comprised the organization's mission:

  1. Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their needs for trained men and women.
  2. Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
  3. Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of all Americans.

More that 182,000 volunteers have carried out those goals over the years, promoting world peace and friendship in over 138 countries.

If you hate the Peace Corps and are here to complain about the organization, do it here. In general, negative comments floating around other sections of this site will be deleted. Thanks!

I've heard the criticism levelled against the peace corps, that it's projects aren't lasting. The go in, make some latrines and leave without the kind of follow necessary to make sure the latrines are maintained. what's the proper retort?
